Project Omega
Glen Water was selected by Northern Ireland Water to deliver Project Omega, a £122 million wastewater treatment and sludge disposal scheme for Northern Ireland that allows the region to meet stringent EU regulations on water quality.
One of the largest Public Private Partnership’s in the UK, Project Omega manages 20% of the region’s wastewater treatment capability and all of its sludge disposal needs.
It is Glen Water’s signature project for Northern Ireland and involves:
- Construction of a new state-of-the-art wastewater treatment works for North Down/Ards. (Completed).
- Design and construction of three new pumping stations at Donaghadee, Millisle and Briggs Rock. (All completed)
- Upgrading six existing wastewater facilities, located at at Ballynacor, Bullay\'s Hill, Seagoe, Armagh, Richill and Ballyrickard. (All completed)
- Upgrading, operation and maintenance of a number of existing wastewater sludge facilities.
- Construction of a second incinerator at Duncrue Street, Belfast. (Completed)
- The implementation of a new sludge disposal solution for Northern Ireland.
Project Omega has been specifically designed to help protect public health and safeguard the environment, creating cleaner, healthier beaches around the North Down coastal area.
Glen Water Ltd is responsible for the design, build and finance of the project and will maintain and operate the new and enhanced facilities over a 25 year period.
Project Omega is one of the most advanced wastewater management and sludge disposal schemes in Europe; capable of serving the needs of Northern Ireland’s current and future population.
